What does the job look like?

As a Heavy Diesel Mechanic based at our Essendon Fields workshop, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing Armaguard’s secure vehicle fleet. Working in a well‑equipped facility, you will diagnose faults, complete scheduled servicing, and undertake mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant and reliable.

You will work autonomously as well as part of a tight‑knit mechanical team that prides itself on quality workmanship and exceptional safety standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Service & Repairs: Perform scheduled maintenance, mechanical repairs, and overhaul work on Armaguard armoured vehicles and heavy diesel assets.
  • Diagnostics: Use advanced diagnostic tooling and software to identify and resolve faults across engine, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Fleet Reliability: Contribute to vehicle roadworthiness, compliance, and uptime through proactive maintenance and attention to detail.
  • Workshop Standards: Maintain a clean, organised workspace and uphold Linfox’s safety-first culture.
  • Parts & Documentation: Manage repair records, maintain accurate service documentation, and assist with parts identification and ordering.
  • Safety: Ensure all work aligns with Linfox safety protocols, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Are you the one?

To excel in this role, you’ll bring strong technical ability, pride in your workmanship, and a commitment to doing things the right way. You’ll be comfortable working in a fast-paced workshop and confident diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues.

You can demonstrate:

  • Heavy Vehicle Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent).
  • Proven Experience: Background in heavy diesel, automotive or specialised fleet maintenance. Armoured vehicle experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Diagnostic Capability: Strong fault‑finding skills across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, with experience using diagnostic tools.
  • Safety Focus: A proactive approach to safety, compliance and risk management.
  • Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a high-performing workshop team.
  • Licences: HR licence or willingness to obtain one highly desirable. Additional certifications (e.g., air-conditioning, auto-electrical, diagnostics) are an advantage.
