What does the job look like?
Based at our Laverton Service Centre, you’ll play a key role as a Trade Assistant, supporting our skilled tradespeople in maintaining and servicing our fleet. Your work will help ensure our transport operations run safely and efficiently. Every day will be hands-on, practical and varied — perfect for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. Key responsibilities include:
Maintain Facilities
Keep workshop areas, tools, equipment and vehicles clean, organised and ready for use.
Support Tradespeople
Assist with mechanical, electrical and diagnostic repairs on company vehicles and equipment.
Manage Inventory
Monitor and maintain stock levels of spare parts, ensuring accurate allocation and timely replenishment.
Operate Tools
Use hand and power tools confidently to carry out workshop tasks and assist in repairs.
Ensure Safety
Follow safety procedures and compliance requirements to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Complete Documentation
Accurately finalise paperwork and maintenance records to support service compliance.

To thrive in this role at Laverton, you’ll bring practical skills, strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety. You enjoy working as part of a team but can also tackle tasks independently. You’re proactive, motivated and ready for a fast-paced workshop environment. You can demonstrate:
- Relevant qualifications: Minimum Year 10 education plus a Certificate II in Automotive Studies (or equivalent), with a willingness to continue developing your skills.
- Hands-on experience: Exposure to basic mechanical repairs, workshop duties or general labouring.
- Tool proficiency: Confident use of hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
- Safety-first mindset: Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and compliance.
- Teamwork and independence: Ability to manage unsupervised tasks while also supporting tradespeople on more complex work.
- Mandatory licensing requirement:
- Multi Combination (MC) Licence is required for this role due to the need to safely manoeuvre and relocate heavy vehicles within the service centre environment.
- Additional advantageous licences: Heavy vehicle–related certifications or specialised training (diagnostics, field service) are beneficial for future progression.
