What does the job look like?

Linfox's Intermodal Business Unit have an opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Operations Supervisor to join our Rail team based in West Melbourne VIC. This role is well suited to a hands‑on leader who enjoys being close to operations, supporting people and taking ownership of outcomes.

You will oversee the day‑to‑day performance of our fleet and allocation team, with responsibility for supervising drivers, managing operational issues and acting as the senior onsite leader during the afternoon and evening shift.This is a full‑time afternoon shift role, working 2:00pm to 10:00pm, Monday to Friday. Key Areas: 

  • Leading and overseeing the fleet and allocation team, including drivers
  • Coaching, developing and supporting team members to build capability and performance
  • Championing a safety‑first culture, including managing safety incidents, investigations and follow‑up actions
  • Acting as the primary reporting and escalation point for any driver‑related issues
  • Providing operational oversight to ensure service delivery meets contractual and customer requirements
  • Ensuring effective handover between shifts and operational teams onsite
  • Acting as the customer escalation point during the afternoon and evening period

  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience within transport, logistics or a similar operational environment
  • Rail industry experience (highly regarded, but not essential — training can be provided)

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Confidence to make decisions, manage issues and lead from the front
  • A genuine passion for safety, people development and continuous improvement
